"What strikes me is the fact that in our society, art has become something which is related only to objects and not to individuals, or life. That art is something which is specialized or which is done by experts who are artists. But couldn't everyone's life become a work of art? Why should the lamp, or the house be an art object, but not our life?" -Michel Foucalt

I completely agree with this quote. Art is no longer something of self expression or emotion or life. Art has become nothing more than the object for which it is being made. Much of the art of today is nothing more than materialistic or objective pieces for people to see and judge based not on the underlying meaning but rather the surface; whether or not it is pleasing to the eye. Art should be about interpretation of emotion or something that tells us of a story deeper than its own.
